Tell us about your family.
Stan and I married in 1985. He was active in the Air Force, landing us as residents of New York state, England and ultimately here in Jacksonville, Arkansas. We have two sons, Aaron Valley and the late Brian Valley.
What is your favorite food?
I think a prerequisite to work at IA-LMA is a love for food! My favorite meal, locally, is the Loaded Barrel pizza from Shotgun Dan’s (with a very cold Coors Light).
What do you do for fun?
Stan and I enjoy riding around Arkansas on the weekends on our Honda trike. Since we already established that I love good food, it should be no surprise that we cruise around finding the best places to eat in our state!
I offset my restaurant habit by walking half marathons. I have medals from races around the nation including Route 66 in Tulsa, Hotter Than Hades in Mississippi and the Millinocket Marathon/Half Marathon in my hometown (in December, with a windchill of -6).
Do you have any furry friends?
Big Papi, true to his name, is a 32 lb. Pomeranian. Oakley is a 75lb. rescued lab mix. Our newest addition, Pumpkin, is a rescue cat.
What are some of your favorite things right now?
My favorite show is This Is Us on NBC. If you haven’t watched it yet, you have plenty of time to catch up on the whole first season. The second season doesn’t start until September 2017!
Another favorite is volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House of Arkansas. Stan and I cook dinner for the families at the house one Sunday a month. We’ve been doing this for 10 years now! We love to serve the families there. Our family spent time at a Ronald McDonald House in Vermont when Brian was an infant. Because of the care we received there, we chose to give back with our time after Brian passed away in 2006.
We started the Brian Valley Memorial 5K + 1 to honor Brian and other families who receive love and support at the Ronald McDonald House. This race is another favorite of mine. We ask participants and supporters to go the extra mile for Brian. It is a little different, and Brian would want it that way.
What's something you have learned recently about your faith or share your favorite scripture/song right now?
My favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
God doesn’t make mistakes. When I am given something that doesn’t make sense, I can and will trust God.
Working for you, not an insurance company!
