Tell us about your family.
My husband, Baxter, and I have been married since 2009. We met, sitting at the yellow table, at orientation for newly elected Associated Student Government senators at the University of Arkansas. I think the table icebreaker games went over pretty well!
We have two children – Anna Leigh (4) and Duke (infant).
What is your favorite food?
Food is my love language, especially food that I don’t have to cook or clean up!
My favorite family restaurant is Larry’s Pizza. It is so much fun to go with my kids and nephews on a Friday night.
Let it be known that I am an equal opportunity sweets eater. My favorite sweet foods are:
What do you do for fun?
My family life and work keep me pretty busy, but I carve out time to serve our community with the Junior League of Little Rock. I start a position on the board of directors this summer and am a past marketing vice president of the JLLR. Our League is committed to children’s school preparedness and nutrition/wellness. Most of our projects are centered on those areas.
Do you have any furry friends?
Nelson is our nine-year-old Cockapoo. He has slowly moved down our list to third most important baby, but we all love having him around.
What are some of your favorite things right now?
When the stars align (and I have a few minutes of alone time), I catch up on podcasts. I have three that I listen to religiously, even if I am months behind on episodes. The Popcast with Knox and Jamie is a weekly podcast about all things pop-culture. The hosts discuss TV shows and movies, celebrities and the latest trends. The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey is what I have termed a mom-cast. She invites a girlfriend on the show each week to discuss life – marriage, parenting, joy, sorrow, grief and some products they are loving. The Big Boo Cast hosts are two bloggers who keep me entertained with their banter about faith, family, friends, fashion and SEC football.
Another favorite is comfy clothes – tshirts and tennis shoes! I like a monogrammed tee, but I love the shirts from Milk & Honey and Love Blooms Here. Pairing a cute t-shirt with my Shoreline Converse is my mom wardrobe.
My other obsession has been the Apple Watch. I hardly look at my phone now. My phone can be anywhere (like at the bottom of the diaper bag) and my watch will ring if my phone is ringing. I can even carry on a phone conversation with someone from my watch. It notifies me of everything from text messages to email (and even to take some deep breaths). Plus it is easier and less distracting to look at your watch than your phone.
What's something you have learned recently about your faith or share your favorite scripture/song right now?
The past several months have been strenuous and, at times, draining. Between the four people in our family, there were almost 40 days spent in the hospital in six months – more nights in the hospital in that short time period than all other times in our family history. But God. God was constantly making Himself known to me. There were moments (or even days) that were more than I could handle. But God. God was in control of every situation – every test, every procedure, every medical professional.
Before Duke was born, God placed Deuteronomy 31:6 in my heart. Baxter and I prayed those words for our boy before he was even born. We had them printed on a canvas for his nursery. We didn’t know why. But God. “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Working for you, not an insurance company!
